R41 Marinated soy steaks

Yes, you can barbecue more than just vegetables. The classic „steak“ is also available in vegan and it is easier than you’d think. The most important thing about is the marinade, that's deciding about everything. Just a remark for everyone who doesn’t like meat like texture or meat like flavor: Hands off of those soy steaks. For all the rest it’s the entry to vegan BBQ-paradise.

Marinated Soy Steaks

5 steaks 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 5 big steaks
  • 1 liter (4.25 cups) veggie stock

For your marinade

  • 10 tbsp ketchup
  • 10 tbsp bbq sauce
  • 2 tbsp agave nectar
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp cayenne
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp steak seasoning
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • herbs of your choice
  • liquid smoke (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak big steaks in veggie stock and leave to stand for 15 minutes at least. Always keep an eye on them and keep stirring. This way the water covers all parts of the soy steaks and turns them soft.
  2. In the meantime, mix together all ingredients for the marinade. It is intended to taste more spicier than usual, because those soy steaks have a natural taste of nothing.
  3. If your soy steaks are soft, press out water and put them in the marinade. Be careful that every single piece is covered well with marinade and leave to stand for 30 minutes. The longer, the more intensive your soy steaks will taste.
  4. Afterwards throw your steaks on the grill and let them roast from both sides.
